District 143 Communications

District 143 recognizes the importance of membership communications.  In our continuing effort to improve communication from District 143, while at the same time identifying all means to reduce cost from within, it is important for the membership to know the structure of the communication process for District 143.  Below is an explanation of how the District prioritizes the various means of communications:

  • Wired to the District – updated each Friday at approximately 4:30 p.m. CST.  Upon the completed update, members that have submitted their emails to District 143 will receive an email link to access Wired to the District for the latest updates.
  • Hotline – a recorded phone message used to update the membership.  Updates are made to the hotline when the Wired to the District, and/or a Flashpoint or Connections bulletin is released.  The Hotline phone number is 800-392-6554
  • Bulletins – Flashpoint and Connection bulletins are tools used to communicate issues that impact our membership or issues that require an immediate release to our membership.  These bulletins are disseminated to all union fax machines (local lodge, grievance committee offices) for the purpose of copying and distribution within the work place in accordance with our collective bargaining agreements in an expeditious manner.  In addition, your respective grievance committee chairs also receive copies to their home mailing address on file with District 143.
  • Northern Lighta brief description of relevant issues that pertain to the workplace written by District 143 General Chairs.  The purpose of the Northern Light edition is for the membership to read about what is going on around the system with all carriers that District 143 maintains jurisdiction of collective bargaining agreements with.
  • District 143 News – the District 143 magazine, which is published quarterly.

District 143 has a pecuniary responsibility to the membership; therefore, it is imperative for our membership to recognize the enormous cost associated with postal mailings.  Example, for the year ending 2004 the total cost of postage was $77,861.08, for the year ending 2005 the total cost of postage was $86,291.89 (Note: NWA and ASA were in ongoing contract negotiations).

We ask that all members join the District 143 email distribution list to help us enhance our communications. Please click on the link to join our list.
